Garrett Morgan: I need to Know More.

Over the weekend, I finished the graphic novel Fire on the Water, which is based on the 1916 Lake Erie tunnel disaster in Cleveland. I was unaware of the disaster before I read the book. The novel did a good job at not only describing the disaster itself but also society during that time period. One of the main heroes of the story is Ben Beltran, who is based on the inventor Garrett Morgan. His part in the story was hidden for many years because the powers that be refused to have a Black man be the hero in the story. I wanted to read more about Mr. Morgan, so I Googled his name. I was disappointed to find that the only books about him were all children’s books. If anyone can recommend a book that focuses on non-white or female inventors, please let me know.
